Burnaby Minor Lacrosse Community,

As we prepare for the upcoming season, I would like to formally outline the evaluation process for our U11–U22 Mixed and Female divisions. Our objective is simple: to ensure a fair, transparent, and consistent process that prioritizes player development, competitive integrity, and clarity for families.

Purpose
At the U11–U22 levels, players participate in skill-based, tiered divisions. Burnaby Minor Lacrosse will follow a structured evaluation process to assess player ability and determine appropriate team placement and division declarations.

Registration & Evaluation Fee
Players must be fully registered with Burnaby Minor Lacrosse and have paid the $50 evaluation fee prior to attending A-level evaluations.

Commitment
Players trying out for an A team are expected to prioritize their Burnaby club commitments during the evaluation and season period.

Team & Division Declarations
Division and team declarations will be determined by the appropriate Executive Member in consultation with the Association Head Coach.

A Team Evaluations

• All players wishing to compete for an A1 or A2 team must attend evaluations.
• Independent evaluators will be assigned.
• Volunteers assisting with drills are not part of the evaluation process.
• Players will be assessed and ranked in many areas including stick skills, athleticism, and coachability.

• Following evaluations, the Executive and Association Head Coach will work in consultation with the A team Head Coach(s) to assemble teams and division declarations.

Roster Sizes
Roster sizes will depend on total registration numbers and overall skill distribution. Final roster limits will be determined by the Executive and Association Head Coach.

Notifications
Families will be communicated to following the evaluation process. Parents/guardians may request their child’s evaluation feedback once the process is complete.

B/C Evaluations

• All remaining players must attend B/C balancing evaluations after A evaluations
• Players will be assessed using the same criteria as A evaluations.
• B teams will be selected following evaluations, with remaining players placed at the C level.

Final Team Assignments
Head Coaches in consultation with an Executive Member and Association Head Coach make final roster decisions. Division Managers and Team Managers are not involved in placement decisions.

Balancing & Merging

If multiple teams are declared within the same caliber, balancing will be coordinated among the team coaches, Association Head Coach, VP of Box Lacrosse, and if necessary, the President.

In the event of a formal team merge with another association, Burnaby Minor Lacrosse will coordinate and agree upon a mutually defined evaluation process. Discussions are ongoing to explore potential partnership opportunities with other clubs and associations based on registration numbers.

Special Circumstances

Injuries
Players unable to attend due to injury must notify both the Division Head Coach and VP via email, ideally at least 5 days prior to evaluations. The Association will work reasonably with injured players to support appropriate placement.

Missed Evaluations (Non-Injury)
Players unable to attend for other reasons must notify the Head Coach and VP in advance. Accommodation requests will be reviewed case-by-case. Participation in A evaluations cannot be guaranteed, and players may be placed at the B or C level if unable to attend.

Releases
If a player is released to Burnaby from another association (or vice versa), the Associations will coordinate an appropriate evaluation process.

Evaluation Times
Evaluation schedules will be posted on the Burnaby Minor Lacrosse website and remain subject to facility availability.
